Trust & Security

This page is maintained by Farmetric to answer common security and privacy questions about the Farmetric diesel and fleet management platform. It describes the controls we have enabled today. It is not an independent certification or audit report.

Shared responsibility

Farmetric is hosted on managed cloud infrastructure. The hosting provider operates the underlying network, database, and authentication services. Farmetric configures the application-level controls described below. Customers are responsible for keeping their own login credentials safe and for the accuracy of data they enter.

Account access & authentication

  • Email and password sign-in with hashed credentials.
  • Leaked-password protection: new and changed passwords are checked against the Have I Been Pwned database and rejected if known to be compromised.
  • Role-based access (admin, manager, operator) scoped to each farm.
  • Session tokens are short-lived and refreshed automatically.

Data protection

  • All traffic between your device and Farmetric is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
  • Data at rest is stored on managed, encrypted database storage.
  • Row-level security policies on every customer table ensure users can only read or modify rows that belong to their own farm.
  • Sensitive billing identifiers (payment provider IDs, VAT numbers) are restricted to the farm owner.

What we collect

  • Account details: name, email, farm name.
  • Operational data you enter: vehicles, tanks, fuel logs, refills, dipstick checks.
  • Subscription and billing identifiers from our payment processor.

We do not store full card or banking details — payments are handled by our payment processor.

Subprocessors

  • Managed database & auth hosting provider
  • Payment processing (PayFast / Paystack)
  • Email delivery for transactional and authentication emails

Data retention & deletion

Your operational data is retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account by contacting support; we will remove your data subject to legal and accounting retention requirements.

Reporting a security issue

If you believe you have found a security vulnerability, please email support@farmetric.co.za with the subject "Security report" and a description of the issue. Please do not publicly disclose the issue before we have had a chance to investigate.
